Samsung PC2700 or OCZ PC300?

I am deciding on what type of memory to get for my new P4 1.6A Gigabyte 8SRX combo, and I am torn. On the one hand, Samsung has gotten good reviews by users, and it is priced less than $80 for 256mb. But OCZ has received excellent reviews from sites such as:

iamnotageek.com

and

tech-report.com

So what should I get? Can I expect the same performance from the Samsung memory vs. the OCZ memory? Why do some people think OCZ memory are not very good? I am looking to do some extremem overclocking on the P4, and want to get the max performance from my memory.

I can get the Samsungs tomorrow from a local vendor, but for the OCZs, I have to wait until Newegg has them in stock, which is sometime next week. If the Samsungs are going to perform well, and give me performance close to or on par with the OCZs, then I am going with Samsungs. Guys, please let me know what you think, and if some of you have these sticks, give me some feed back.

Thanks a bunch!

I would go for the Samsung or Kingmax PC2700 because the OCZ gives you a ~70% chance of getting a DOA stick. Many, many horror stories about OCZ products can be found around these forums and especially at the HardOCP forums.

I believe that the ocz sticks often come as lower pc2100 or pc2400 chips oc'd to hell and just verified as stable at speed being sold...Often if they come with heat spreaders take that as a sign as they are oc'd to hell already. IMO...

Also the samsung make sure it is either 6ns or 5ns memory...It should offer you much more headroom in case you get that 1.6 up to 145fsb or something and have a 4:5 or 3:4 ratio to use for memory...

After reading some threads on HardOCP, I think I am going to go with Samsungs. They are cheaper anyways. I just wondering about the 1 stick of 512mb or 2 sticks of 256mb. Which one will give me better chance of OC. I created another post for that question.

I would look for the corsair ultra xms pc-2700 stuff...it beat kingmax pc-2700 in a review and worked at high fsb speeds at the fastest memory timings.

I've got 2 x 512Mb sticks of the Corsair PC2700 XMS that I love. It's running real smooth @ 340Mhz, CAS2, 2.5v in my box.

Interesting thing though, over at Corsair's forums, thier "Ram Guy" say's that the Corsair 512Mb XMS RAM is using "Samsung Rev C 256Mb IC's" ! Could these be the same modules that are on the Samsung 512Mb PC2700 RAM? Anyone have some Samsung to look at?

Of course you could wait a little bit for Crucial to come out with pc2700. Then you'll know for SURE your getting the best

I'll be getting my Samsungs in on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll let you know.

Not likely an option because Crucial takes forever. Remember how long it took to get 512mb DDR modules from them and you still can't get cas latency 2-2-2 PC2100 modules from them.
