Damn, that's bad. Really bad. One step forward, two (or ten) steps back. They could slap the newest Exynos on the Note 4, call it the Note 5, and it would probably be better than what this thing will be.

Neither phone interest me - OnePlus 2 has the S810 with a 3300mAh battery and no quick charging or wireless while the Moto X Style has the S808 with a 3000mAh battery.

So both seem in the same league as the Note 5 rumors which makes me sad. The above phones would be a sidegrade from the Note 4.

The difference is that they have to deal with the Qualcomms mess, while Samsung had an advantage but they decided to use it on thinness.
 
year this just lost a large chunk of their userbase

Same screen size as before, same screen resolution, IR removed, microSD removed, smaller capacity fixed battery, no Type-C, same old TW lag, slow updates & bloat

The irritating thing is that the S6 Edge+ gave them an easy opportunity to separate the Note. Let that Edge+ be the thin one with smaller battery for those who want design/feel.

Now you have plenty of options to take the Note 5 which are acceptable. Be non-removable but a large 4000mAh battery and still be pretty thin. Or go with a real leather back like the G4 and stick with a currently sized removable battery.

I could put up with a lot, but not that. Who wants to be tethered to a wall? I'm so used to being able to swap batteries on my Note4 and never having to plug in during the day, there's no way I would go back.

Maybe they'll come to their senses on the Note6. If not I'll go with LG next time.

I don't get it

I just don't know why they'd take away useful things. They pissed me off once by taking away the voice activated alarm that I had in my galaxy S4 (being able to just say "snooze" instead of finding the button on my phone was so awesome) but this just seems like a bad joke.

edit: actually it just hit me. My buddy has one of their gear watches and it has an IR blaster right on the watch. I wouldn't put it past them to take it out of the phones to make the watches seem more useful

Because of the large screened Huawei Nexus coming this year, the one and only thing the Note has left going for it is the stylus, but that alone is not enough to convince me to forgo the Nexus for one. Plus the Nexus will likely be cheaper too, and work with Project Fi.

While I don't consider the removable battery and mSD slot as absolutely necessary features, they are still nice things to have. I don't understand Samsung dropping them from the Note line. Having all of those "power user" features plus the stylus is what put the Note over the top of other flagships.
 
Good gracious, I hope they don't make the Note 5 same as the S6 /S6 Edge with no option for SD card and a non-removable battery.. I'm expecting it to be a whole lot better..
 
Samsung removing the battery and SD card option will just make future buyers go to iphone instead. This is a dumb move for samsung IMO. I passed up the S6 for just those reasons and will pass up the Note 5 for them as well. Maintaining my Note 4 is now my priority.
 
I skipped the Note 4 hoping to see what goodies the Note 5 would bring. Looks like I will be getting a Note 4 now. Or just keep my Note 3 until it dies. The reason I upgraded from Note 2 was for the IR blaster. Now they remove that, screw up the battery, & no sd card?? Seems like they are shooting themselves in the face with this release.

Also, new Lumia 950XL will have pen support, so maybe I can finally go Windows.
 
I'm oddly surprised at how many people used the IR blaster. I tried it once and then disabled the app since I found it useless. When I switch channels on my STB, I go to the guide and scroll 8 channels at a time. I found the channel and volume buttons on my phone useless.

Its fun programming friends systems on your phone then randomly changing channels or shutting things on or off.

I always misplace the remote. I always have my phone on me. I keep the app open in my notification screen. Much easier to turn on/off/change channel.

On a related topic, are there any good insurance options? I bought my Note4 from T-Mobile a while ago but didn't get the insurance because I was just planning on swapping it out for the Note5. Now it's obvious I'll have this phone for at least another year.

The built in app isn't perfect, but just like most things android there's multiple app choices for everything... even the IR blaster. I like Smart Remote myself

Best part about IR blaster? Not having to ask somebody at the bar/restaurant to put the right game on.

Yep, I've change many a bar tv channel in my day. Who wants soccer when american football is on?
