Samsung NC10

For Christmas wife is getting me a netbook so I have been checking out all the different models out there. Out of all the ones I have used these were on my short list.

MSI Wind
Lenovo S10
HP Mini

I was waiting for the HP Mini to get to BB before making my decision and they just got it this past weekend so I headed out there to check it out. After 5 minutes of playing with it I knew this was the one I wanted because of the keyboard. Big keys and very easy to type. BB is selling the 16GB 10" model for $449 so figured it was a good deal plus I could not enough of that keyboard. The trackpad was a lacking coming from my macbook but I could live with it.

So I get home to do some final research before I told her that's what I wanted and I came across the Samsung NC10. I saw that they advertised big keys like the HP so I figured it couldn't hurt to try it out. I searched to see if any store around me carried it and I found a local shot that had them so I headed over to check it out. They were selling it for $479 which is $30 more than the Mini but it had a 160GB HDD, 6 cell battery, and bluetooth which the mini did not have. I started playing with the keyboard and right away I realized this was the one. The keyboard believe it or not is a little bigger than the HP and has a full size shift key on the right side unlike the HP. Keys were big and responsive and keyboard showed no signs of flex unlike the eeePC and Aspire Ones. Trackpad was a little smaller than normal but at least the buttons were on the bottom unlike the HP (sides). Unit was very thin not very big even with the 6 cell battery. Needless to say I came home and told my wife that the Samsung was the one I wanted.

For anyone out there looking for a netbook this holiday season you should definitely try and look for the NC10. IMO I would have to say so far it is the best netbook out hands down.

That may be a great netbook but I would never pay that much for a netbook. I too have been considering either an Asus or MSI but at a lower price. I travel a lot to SoCAl so I was looking for something to replace my Dell M1330 (13") laptop. For me the 13" display size is nearly perfect ... not too big and not too small.

If you really want this netbook, talk to the wife and go here:

ebay

If you do not yet know about the Microsoft Cashback promotion ... Google it. Using it you can get this unit (hopefully with no sales tax) for about $335 at 25% off. That's a good price for a netbook ... not $480 plus tax.

Good luck

Why would you want a netbook with an HD any stuff? Like what's the point of having so much storage on such a small and weak device? It should only really be used for watching videos off your network, typing papers, and surfing the internet. Once you start trying to get more out of the atom processor I think you'll be disappointed and just wish you had put up the extra 300-500 to get a real laptop.

I don't know, Asus has the N10/N20 that even has a 9300m discrete gpu! Even though the Atom is underpowered, reviews show it can game (!) COD4 at playable levels.

Wow - that is pretty damn nice if you consider the MS 25% cashback. Plus its only 1 pound heavier than most netbooks.
