I recently purchased two Samsung S22A100 N 21.5" monitors and tried installing them into my Sparkle GTX660 2GB Graphics card...now the Sparkle only has one VGA input and these monitors are VGA...so I went and got a VGA to DVI adapter and tried plugging it into my computer. The problem is that even though my graphics card and computer recognise my monitor and I can drag pages and applications onto the monitor's side...it's just...blank...as in off. I know it's working because I switched the VGA inputs around and it was fine.

This is really annoying me. I tried Tom's Hardware but the moderators bullied and banned me so I'm in need of some help! thank you!

:)

Welcome to the AnandTech forums.

What do you see in "Set Up Multiple Displays" in Nvidia Control Panel? Can you post a screen capture?

What's weird is that it actually print screens the other screen, but I can't see it. The Samsung is blank (as in off blank) Just after I plug it into my Graphics card it goes into power saving mode.

That doesn't seem to help with anything, I can't actually click surround at all...and even without Nvidia the monitor wont come on but is recognised.

They're included in the Nvidia driver suite -- if you select "Custom" for installation, you can select 3D Surround (which I'm guessing is what you need to have in order to enable Surround, even for 2D). If you select the "Express" installation method, everything in the drivers gets installed.

apparently you need 3 screens for surround. I just have two and I want the other to work and it wont.

This is why you need to talk to someone who has more than one display, and not an idiot like me with only one. I was hoping that if I started the conversation, someone who actually knows what they're talking about would chime in. :)

Are you just trying to span your desktop across two panels? Couldn't you just do that in the display settings in Control Panel?

So what you've got here is two panels connected to your 660, one works, but the other is blank -- and you can drag things off of the side of the working panel, but they just go to la-la land because your second panel is dark?

Yep! It really is strange. I'm using a VGA to DVI adapter, but I don't see any problem as I'm not outputting any digital signal, only analogue.

Do you mean DVI to VGA? I thought your monitors only had VGA in, so you were taking one of the 660 DVIs and converting it?

What happens when you only connect one monitor, using the adapter?

It's really strange. Surely if the adapter wasn't working the display would be on 'disconnected' mode, and it wouldn't be recognised in the computer or on the GPU and wouldn't be able to use it.

Okay --are you following the instructions in the video for enabling extended desktop?
