I am working on a Samsung ML-1740 ( similar to the ML1210 ) )which is having intermittent paper pick-up problems. I noticed black pickup roller marks on tops the pages when it did not pick up . The pickup roller seems to be in decent condition ( fairly soft ).

The printer generally seems to work fine when there is only a small stack of paper (around 20 pages) in the tray . I stretched the springs in the paper supply tray that push the paper up thinking that would help but that made no difference . It was a perfectly good lightly used ( 1500-2000 pages since new ) printer unil this started happening . Any suggestions on a fix to deal with this problem ? - Thanks

They have various cleaner sheets for laser priners and there are probably feed roller treatment/renewer sheets too.

I have exactly the same problem on the same printer. Have tried wetting the rollers, adding paper, etc. Often, I open the paper drawer and find a page pushed forward and up. Then, I need to put it back and try again. This has been happening since the printer was almost new. It is very frustrating when it happens several times during the printing of one document. HELP PLEASE!

I've had the 1710 for 12,000 pages and not a problem, check to make sure that the metal clip is still on the printer tray...ie there should be a shiney piece of metal on center bit of the paper tray near the top.
