Okay. This is my first post, so be easy on me...

I went to Fry's and found a Samsung ML-1430 for $199.99. That's a pretty good price to begin with. And then there's this $30 rebate deal going on until 9/30.

So that's it. It basically comes down to $169.99 + tax.

I bought it today, and I thought it was well worth the money spent. The print is actually quite decent from what I can tell.

It's also about $184 at buy.com with free shipping as well (no rebate) for those of us without a Frys.

Yes but the Brother HL-1440 is a better (slightly more expensive) laser printer.

I've been shopping for a cheap(ish) laser printer, and a friend with a lot of support experience has recommended I stay away from printers like the ML-1430 with vertical paper feed (as opposed to the horizontal paper tray on the more expensive units). He said that the vertical feed is much more prone to jamming. In the Samsung line, that would mean going with the ML-1440 or higher. According to pricewatch, the 1440 can be had for just over $200 shipped.

Staples has the Lexmark E-210 laser printer for $99.98. Add something to get it to 100 and throw in a 20off100 and you can have it for $80. Not bad for a cheap Laser. It's a top feed however.

Some features:

12 pages per minute Black.
600x600 dpi.
150 sheet capacity.
4 MB memory max.
Parallel/USB connectivity.Cable not included.

I don?t know what type of ?experience? you friend has, but I would strongly disagree with your friend?s opinion. While a horizontal tray feeds are the ?norm? on more expensive lasers, the reasoning has to do with paper capacity rather than paper feed orientation. In fact if you look at the printers that jam the most, you will find that HP LaserJet?s at the top the list. We use everything from $50 Lexmark e210s to $6000 Tektronics multi-output color printers and I have found that cost and paper orientation have little if anything to do with a printer's potential to jam. Environmental factors, poor maintenance, and cheap paper are far more likely to cause jamming than paper feed orientation.

Hi, That Lexmark looks extremly similar to my Samsung ML-1210 the only difference is the color of the buttons. But anyways....

Vertical paper feeds are much better in my opinion and allow you to print a big range of things. such as envelopes and harder paper. The only time this printer has jammed was when i used some cheap ass paper, and that was because the paper curled up because of the heat and caught the outer lip.

I agree with GetReal that the only difference is the amount of paper you can hold. But unless you print over 150 sheets at a single click, that wont bother you.
