Samsung Memory PC2700?

What is the opinion of Samsung PC2700. Does it handle over clock ok? or is it best to pay the buck and go with crucial or corsair?

I've heard different reports, but it sounds like Samsung memory on a Samsung PCB is among the best quality RAM you can get. Samsung memory on other PCB's is a bit more of a crapshoot.

It also depends on whether you get the "CTL" revision or the "DTL" revision of the Samsung RAM. The older CTL revision seems to handle the higher overclocks better than the newer DTL revision. My guess is they're diverting all their faster chips to either third-parties like Corsair or so they can start selling PC3000 or PC3200 RAM. So unless you can get "CTL" revision chips on actual Samsung PCB, I would recommend getting Corsair XMS RAM if you're going to do some serious overclocking.

if not going to overclock, would you still suggest getting samsung memory on true samsung PCB? Is there really any difference and is the money worth it to buy a name brand memory chip?

yes it is
i built a system for my uncle and got some pc2700 memory and it wouldn't hold the faster mem timings in the bios
so i ran it at pc2100 speeds just so it could hold the faster mem settings
usually the cheep stuff can't hold 2-2-2 latencies

Well, in 3 weeks of testing 3 different 512Mb PC2700 sticks - all of them Samsung 'DTL' based, I found that my current Samsung Original 512Mb PC2700 'DTL' stick is doing DDR400 quite easily. The first 2 sticks were bad. First one was a Samsung on 3rd and the 2nd stick was a used stick that www.overclockers.co.uk sold to me (I'm still annoyed about that as they don't want to give me a refund! Selfish people.) Both of those sticks just about did DDR375.

Anyway, the 3rd and current stick, a Samsung Original 'DTL' stick too, is actually a replacement stick that www.MicroDirect.co.uk sent me because they gave me a Samsung on 3rd, meaning Samsung chips on a 3rd party supplier's PCB, hence not always a good memory stick for overclocking. I RMA'd that stick back to them and they sent me the Original one this time and WOW it sure is a good stick. Easily doing DDR400 with 2.7v vdimm on my ABIT BG7 running at 160MHz FSB.

By the way, the Samsung chips on my current stick are dated Week 0217, if that helps.
