with 106 customer reviews and a 4.5 star rating on Amazon I don't think you have anything to worry about, it should be a good set.

My friend just got a Samsung 40", almost the same model, just a bit smaller, the blacks are amazing but out of the box there were way too many blacks.. needs some adjusting as far as I'm concerned.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one to notice the massively cartoony contrast levels on some of these sets. To me it seems most contrast claims above say 10,000:1 just look like over kill. Same for the over kill on the color these super contrast sets can achieve. If the TV has twice the color levels as real life, that's great for console gaming and cartoons, but bad for just about anything else you might want to watch or do with it.

This is not a contrast issue. It's inaccurate colors combined with brightness set too high.
Just about all of the LCD's do not have the contrast levels of a good plasma, despite what LCD mfgs would have you believe, since they can't actually display a true black. In addition, turning the backlight down to increase black levels often destroys the TVs ability to render the darkest parts of an image (i.e. black crush).

IMO, the cure for this thing already exists and it's called Plasma.
