Samsung Electronics Co. remains the largest single supplier of iPad components. It made the display in the unit iSuppli examined and it supplies all iPad processors. ISuppli suspects Samsung also made the battery and supplies flash storage memory for some versions of the new iPad.
End Quote.

So, why cant samsung make a tablet with a similar display? Or does it? Havent really followed samsungs tablets.

Because their Android line is focused on their Amoled Technology, which isn't there yet in terms of resolution, but has far surpassed it in colors and almost every other metric.

The technology behind the screen was invented by Sharp and licensed to Samsung and LG. All three firms make the screen for the new iPad. Sharp and LG were not making screens for the new iPad when it came out but may have started already. Elpida makes the memory for the new iPad and Toshiba makes the Nand flash memory. Of course, Apple may diversify.

Samsung has gone down the Super AMOLED route. They already showed off a 2560x1600 Super AMOLED display last year that is likely to go into production around Q2 2012. However, it requires the Exynos 5250 to drive that kind of resolution, which again won't be ready until Q2.

Samsung has already stated this year that they are going to announce products closer to their ship date, which is why we didn't see any major news from them at CES or MWC.

It was mentioned somewhere a few months ago (maybe it was just a rumour) that samsung would come out with an 11 inch tablet that was 1080p by summer. This woudl compete against the asus 1080p tablet.
-
One difference between the two (apple and andriod) is that the shape tends to be different with apple a bit more boxy.
-
Anyways do not be surprise to see a 1080p tablet by samsung in the next 6 months formally announced. Will it be the identical part number; naw as I noted it will be shaped a bit different though chances are it will be lcd and not amoled.

The problem with a Android 1080p tablet is that the only GPU capable of a decent gaming experience with that screen is in the new iPad. Samsung has given no indications it will go that far on the GPU.

Mali-T604 can do 68 GFLOPs wich should be enough for that resolution

Samsungs display on the Galaxy tab 10.1 was every bit as good if not better in some aspects as the POS Ipad2..
many sites reported this..

basically the only andriod tablet worth owning.. and it puts the Ipad 2 to shame in most aspects.

IMO thier phone displays are flat better than the tiny Iphone as well.. retina display my ass.. still looks like shit..

Give me a G2S any day over an Iphone.

Bingo, here these answer I was coming to post. On top of that, I think Apple has also invested a few billion dollar in to Sharp to help develop the display technology and to try and ramp up Sharp's manufacturing.
