I have a new PC ,
Xp Pro
Asus P5GDC deluxe ,
P4 630 ,
2 80G Sata Hdd : 1 seagate and one samsung that I have transfered from my other PC (listed down).
The problem is that I see my Ssmsung Hdd as "Maxtor 6y080m0" in the device manger under Disk Drives.

I also have a Beep when I start my PC , and in the Asus manual it says that it might indicate of "No master drive detected ."

What can cause the Xp to see that Hdd as a Maxtor ?

Thanks
Sid

When you boot your PC and go into BIOS..

What happens when you choose to AUTO DETECT the hard drive? Does it come up as Samsung or Maxtor?

Hi ,
Thanks for answering,
I dont know how to set Auto detect ,

I have checked the IDE page in the BIOS ,
this what I get :
Primary IDE Master :NEC ..... (My dvd /burner).
Primary IDE slave :not detected
Third IDE Master : ST380817AS
Third IDE slave : Maxtor 6Y080M0
Fourth IDE Master : Not detected
Fourth IDE slave : Not detected

What else should I do to asnwer your question ?

Thanks,

Sid

Get into the BIOS at THIS screen.

Scroll down to the Hard Drive.

Select Auto Detect.

I had this happen to me once.. after adding a new hard drive, Iswitched the postion of the other and it did not pick it up immediately But after I did this thru BIOS... it all worked out for me.

Hi,
Thanks alot for trying to help.

My BIOS is little different .
When I go to the IDE master Tab I have many parameters,
Type:Auto
LBA auto
..
all set to auto ,
the same for all IDE master / slave ?

what about the fact that there is no secondary IDE master / slave .
only third and fourth ?

Regards,
Sid

Mine were already set to auto... but when i clicked on it, it searched for it again and reset it to the correct hard drive.

If this doesnt work for you... I am really sorry then, but I cannot help you. My skills/knowledge/experience is very limited.
:(
So, this is a free bump.
Good Luck.
