They are both excellent drives. Both very fast and very quiet. Go with the cheaper one :p

Samsung seek time: 8.9 ms

Hitachi seek time: 8.5 ms

Think that matters? Or am I being too damn picky? ;)

I've used both and I can honestly say I can't tell between the two. Both are excellent.

Haven't used a Hitachi but I really like my Samsung. Dead quiet, smooth and fast enough that I can't tell any difference between similar Seagates, WD's or Maxtors I've owned.

spend $10 and get 40 more gigs, seriously.. get the cheapest 8mb cache 160 gig drive and it should be about $95.. maybe less.. the price difference between 120 and 160 gig is so small i have no idea why someone would get a 120.. also you can probably get a 200 gig for $100.. i almost bought one at staples with no rebates or anything for $99 the other week.. sales tax would have made it something like $106 though.. still...

but i don't really have any brand loyalty for hard drives. just get the cheapest one with the right specs.. and make sure it is an oem with a 3+ year warranty and you will be fine.
