SAMSUNG 80GB 7200RPM Model# SP8004H
Specifications:
Size: 80 Gigabytes
Interface: IDE ULTRA ATA100
Seek time: 8.9ms
RPM:7200
(think it has 2mb cache)

wonder if these drives are any good ??
would the western digital drives stomp on them ??
wonder what the failure rates might be

Not bad, at least it works.
WD has been in the hd industry for a long time, Samsung is pretty new to this industry.
For computer stuff, normally you get what you pay for.

what kind of warranty do they offer? also - do they have Drive utilities(disk scans, LLFs, etc) I've seen a couple companies that make HDD's and then basically don't support them at all.

If support seems ok and the warranty is cool (3 years or so) then I'd say try it out and let us know!

I've used older Samsung drives.....4.3gigs to be exact. That was like 4 years ago.....but even back then those drives could take some beating. I believe Samsung has been making drives long enough to make drives just as reliable as other brands.

I have the 80gig, 7200rpm Samsung. Its fast and quiet. So far, it has been reliable. They have a three-year warranty, same as any other brand.
