Samsung Gurantees LCD Zero Dead Pixels

Well it's great if you live in S. Korea, which is the only place thier offering it (for now at least). Makes you wonder if they'll ship the defective LCDs to other places where they don't offer the same garantee.

I don't get it. It only makes sense that there is some screening being done already, beyond simply that the panel lights up and appears usable at a glance. They must know the per-pixel defect rate. Furthermore, it could be a costly gamble to guarantee no defects yet still knowingly ship them which would imply that S. Korea gets all good ones while other markets suffer an increase in bad ones. I have wondered if product was screened as a contract condition for large customers the likes of Dell but as said the implications for preferential or graded quality are difficult sans disparate guarantees.

I'm guessing it is just a marketing move. They look good for addressing the problem, and gamble on the amount that will actually get returned , factoring in the number of end users that will know enough to complain.

EDIT: Either way, good for them.
