I like Samsung's phones but they still can't make a decent "mainstream" tablet. Maybe they should drop the Galaxy branding from the Tab line so it doesn't tarnish the phones any more.

The only thing these have going for them is the MicroSD slot, other than that out-priced & out-specced by cheap Chinese knockoffs.

What are you talking about? The Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is phenomenal.

I find it ironic that people rant and rave how awesome the moto g is, even though it has a crappy quad core cortex a7 processor in it, yet these tablets will have an evolution of the cortex a7 called the a53 (64bit version estimated to be >20% faster at the same clock speed).

What matters for these tablets are price, how fast the emmc is, and how much bloat that Samsung puts on there. Yes I would rather these cpus be baytrail, the snapdragon 800/801, or tegra 4; but if it allows Samsung to release these products at a low price while still making money for the company then I am fine with these tablets. Remember they have the galaxy tab pro line for the nicer tablets.

Lets wait for the prices.

That's the problem. Samsung really hasn't been pricing these low enough to make them exciting budget options. Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 launched at $200 and was an utter POS compared to the Nexus 7. It should have been at LEAST $50 cheaper, maybe closer to $120 or something. And the Galaxy Tab 8 at $280 wasn't much better for how low end it was.

Lets wait for prices, currently the galaxy tab 3 7 Lite (same as galaxy tab 3 7" but no front camera and no ir blaster) is $150.

As long as Samsung can keep the price low, have good emmc, and keep the bloat down it can sell. The price needs to be low enough for it not to compete with the nexus 7".

The market for the galaxy tab 7" line should be against the chinese makers, whiteboxes such as hp products, cheap asus memopad/acer iconia/dell venue, kindle fire, etc. To win this market they need to produce a cheap but reliable product, something good for casual use and video watching, they do not need to win the spec wars just have something that is cheap and reliable. To put this in comparison the cheapest kindle fire with a 7" 1280x800 screen and a 1.5 ghz cortex a9 dual core with 1gb of ram is currently $139, this is with locked eco system and nagware ads.

The next tier is the "cheap premium product" (the nexus line) curently no one competes here besides the nexus and the lg g pad 8." Samsung won't compete in this tier for there is very little money in this tier.

And the high end android which pretty much only has Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro. This tier has ridiculous margins but low amount of units sold.
