With my HTC Android phone I can plug it into USB and access it as a mass storage device without any extra software. I came across a Samsung Android phone (an older cheaper one probably) that can't do this. Can the GS3?

Yeah. When I plug into the PC via USB I get this.

That what you mean?

I dont think thats what he means. I think he just means plugging the phone into the PC and using the phone like a USB stick.

No, you can't. However, you can have it act like a media or music device and transfer files that way (as shown in the screenshot above).

For most cases the distinction would be considered pedantic, but the SGS3 CANNOT act as a mass storage device.

Yup, thanks!

When I encountered the other Samsung phone I mentioned, I had the feeling of "what if I had gone out and bought the GS3 then found that it didn't have this feature?", to which the answer would have started with the letter F and echoed around my neighbourhood!

Not being awkward here, buts whats the difference. If I can open it up in windows explorer and drag and drop?

podspi, please elaborate further.

With my HTC, I can tell its USB connectivity to adopt a number of possible modes, 'charge only', 'disk drive' and the others are to do with sync software and networking.
