Samsung Galaxy S2 - August! ...finally

AT&T really lacks for decent keyboard options. In fact, your best choice is probably a Droid 3... 😀

That said, if the Verizon one drops in a month I guess I'll actually have to re-up (upgrade window opened last week, contract out in September). They'll probably kill upgrades to 4G unlimited the day before or something, though. Hm. Wonder if I could go to Costco, get the Charge and plan upgrade, then go back a week later and get the GS2?

I'm probably going to end up getting this phone but I am HIGHLY disappointed they didn't go w/ qHD resolution, so much so that I'd just get the Sensation (even w/ its less RAM and built in memory) if it weren't for TMobile's absolutely unusable data service in Las Vegas.

Are there any phones coming out shortly after the SGS2 that are competitive?

I don't think we have any idea of phones coming after the SGS2 in US...might have to wait till the release of Ice Cream Sandwich and the next Nexus.

qHD is a gimmick, particularly when all the Motos have been Pentile.

Now if 720p is really imminent, that might make me think twice.

wow if they actually have a qwerty slider version in the works for AT&T, I might actually be interested in this phone.

More pixels at an actual 16:9 resolution is a gimmick? 720p would definitely be awesome though.

When I had my Droid Charge it was hands down the best display I've ever seen on a phone. Samsung phones do have nice screens, resolution isn't everything (though it does matter to an extent).

Yeah, when those extra pixels are still in one of HTC or Moto's crappy screens it is a gimmick. It's like saying a 1080p lcd tv is better than a 720p plasma which is hardly the case.

Compared to any qHD phone the Super AMOLED Plus display on the Galaxy S2 has better black levels, contrast, response time, and viewing angles.

The qHD screens out so far have more accurate color tracking than the SAMOLED+ display in the SGS2, though. Both techs have downsides and upsides - personally I care more about resolution than contrast on mobile displays, but contrast and blacks are way more important for my movie watching at home.

I find it very unlikely that the current qHD screens have better color accuracy than the Galaxy S2, after all it has a utility allowing you to calibrate the screen.

After owning one of the original Galaxy S phones I will never buy another phone with a lcd screen.

I just switched from Rogers to Bell for this phone a couple hours ago, my contract with Rogers expired a while ago, the plans are all alike, so I just went for the better phone. Rogers really dropped the ball here, they only got Infuse which is single core, and only like today or yesterday HTC Evo 3D (they haven't had HTC phones for months). No Gallaxy S2, HTC Sensation or Atrix. Can't help to feel like they're Apple's bitches or something...

It's my first smartphone too, I like it so far 🙂

Unless there's an Apple logo on it, of course. Then its automatically the best. 😛

Seriously though, guys, before year's end, you're going to see qHD and 720p Android phones, probably with both Pentile and xAMOLEDx technologies.

I'm conflicted on the Pentile screens, the DX2's screen looks like crap, but the Droid 3's display looks pretty damn good. Refinement of the tech, I guess.

I think you are on CRACK..

I'd sure as hell take my 240HZ 1080P LED LCD over a crappy 720p plasma.. any day of the week..

you can keep that crappy old 720 plasma.

There's also the fact that Moto's QHD displays have better visibility in sunlight than any display technology on any other phone on the market by a wide margin.

and that is why you are a guy that 'thinks' he knows what a quality display is..... sure there are crappy plasmas, but to generalize and even specifically state that a 240HZ LCD is better than a plasma makes you look foolish

No, it is called an opinion. It is not close to a fact that plasmas look better, it's opinion.
