(Didn't see this already mentioned, if it has been, sorry.)

For anyone interested, Samsung is offering a trial program. Borrow a Note 3 or S5 (with service!) or Gear Fit, Gear 2 (or even a combo of more than one) for 21 days, free. There is a credit card deposit required for each device, but it's fully refunded.

Bad news is it's only available at a few locations in TX, NY and CA:

Dallas-Fort Worth/Frisco, TX: Stonebriar Centre Mall
Houston/The Woodlands, TX: The Woodlands Mall
Los Angeles/Canoga Park, CA: Westfield Topanga
New York City: Samsung Galaxy Studio SoHo,
Santa Clara, CA Westfield Valley Fair

But according to Samsung they might expand this if it's successful.

I have no need of another smartphone (they were actually eager for me to borrow one too, I guess not so many people know about this promotion, but I have a N3 and not interested in the S5) so I decided to go pick up a Gear Fit and test drive it for 21 days. Rather than just bitch about how stupid and geeky smartwatches are, I thought maybe I'd try one and see for myself.

So far (day 2) I hate to say it: I actually love this silly thing. In actual use it's not quite as goofy as I thought. It's not insanely functional, but it has just enough that I could see getting used to it. So far it's come in handy in showing me text messages while my hands weren't free, and allowing me to respond (customizable pre-written response) without touching my phone. And just quickly checking missed calls has been cool. I know I'll hate myself, but I might just end up buying it.

Samsung gives a $50 Play Store card as a buying incentive, but you can really just play around with a device for 21 days and return it with no obligation, for nothing.

Anyone who wants to try-before-buying for 21 days and lives near one of the locations should check this out.

I'm not in those areas but a smart watch sounds like something I wouldn't mind trying out. Too bad it's not Android Wear but even still, you could get an idea as to whether you would find it useful to have.

Update to this: I did the 21 day trail with the Gear Fit- ended up liking it enough to buy one for $150 -$50 Play Store credit.

I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, but now Samsung is extending the test-drive offer to the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the Tab S 10.5.

Same limited locations.

Didn't see this before, but an interesting idea. I've always been intrigued by the Note series, but am worried that it's just too big for me. Being able to give it a go for a few weeks would be a good way to know if it'd be worth it or not.

Interesting. Trying a watch like that is probably the only way I'd ever consider one.

Right now I'd love to test a N3 until the N4 is announced/released and I likely buy that. Too bad on the limited locations.

I can understand doing this for cell phones, but doing it for something like a tablet or a watch doesn't make a lot of sense.

Just go to Best Buy and buy a Gear. Use it for thirty days, return it. Or keep it if you end up liking it.

For cell phones, this makes sense so that you don't have to set up a new account, then cancel it and pay a pro-rated fee, etc, etc.
