Well I was running 4x 74 gig raptors in raid0. They have become to much of a pain to run. So I want to run a single drive, 1tb, is the samsung the best option?

I believe it's very near the top if not the best.

Though honestly, i doubt you could tell any difference between a Caviar Black & that, or even other 1 TBs.

Why not get an SSD for the OS + a 1 TB?

Actually, judging by the HDTune benchmarks I've seen of the 74GB raptors, they're really not that fast compared to modern hard drives; the aerial density is too low.

Here's the results for a RAID 0 array with 2 74GB Raptors (8MB) that I found:

Here's the results for my RAID 0 array with 2 Caviar Green 640GB 16MB drives:

IIRC the aerial density of the Greens is 320GB/platter. At best, the Raptor is 74GB/platter.

Is it just me or is the Raid 0 array controller limited?

Just going simple and cheap right now. Mabye get a ssd this summer. So I should pull the trigger on the f3?

Yeah the raptors just didnt seam to be pulling their weight. Got my son a 1.5 tb seagate and it seamed very quick, part of the reason for me ditching the raptors and getting the 1tb.

The guy who posted the results for the Raptors, from HardOCP, IIRC, said he got comparable results on several different controllers. Still doesn't exactly make sense to me, I mean you'd expect it to slow down as the test progresses, like with mine.
