Samsung F3 1TB - $54.99; F4 2TB - $89.99 with code @ the Egg

Damnit! I've purchased three of these 2TB drives recently, every time pricing goes down... Must... wait... for... Black... Friday...

in for 3 2TB from superbiz, thnx jmill

anybody wants to know about WHS just go to newegg comments on 2TB
if you dont know what you are doing (4096 drive) better pass
Looks like Win 7 SP1 really helps there drives for some reason

Agree with bamacre that ewiz hard drive packing is terrific...comes suspended in a styrofoam crate. Never seen that before and it is a welcome change from Newegg.
That's the way mine came from superbiiz but there was about 1" between the side and top of the box and the Styrofoam for the drive to slide/bounce around. Not to mention it was shipped via UPS who are experts at damaging boxes. I have pics if anyone is interested.

I got a Seagate Barracuda 1TB 32mb cache 7200rpm for $75 plus tax on clearance at Wal-Mart. I haven't installed it yet. Thought it was a good deal as the 500GB version next to it was $90 & this was the last one left.

Does the Barracuda line offer any special extra speed? Or not?

Or should I return it and get one of these deals?

I haven't been keeping up with the current hard drives. But the 1tb samsung here is $54 and you got your seagate for $75. I would buy the samsung and save the $20. Lots of people buy hd's based on brand preference of which they think is more reliable. As it happens a while ago seagate had a pr nightmare from their hd's due to some firmware and a lot of them were going bad. Everything should be ok now though, but people still kind of distrust seagate after that I think.

They samsung and the seagate barracuda I think each have 3 year warranties.
Performance I think the samsung is the faster one.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just looked up the model # ST310005N1A1AS-RK of this drive & it has way, way too many bad reviews of failing. So I will return it & get the Samsung drive.

I have two F3s in a 2TB raid 0 (software in win7) setup for a smoking fast setup. Don't worry, they are backed up...outstanding bang for the buck and gives my Vertex 2 SSD boot drive a solid run for the money. Great drives.

Your on the right track! The Sammy 1TB is faster, cheaper, and more reliable.

I believe the Samsung F3 is supposed to be one of the fastest 7200rpm drives out there (at least when it was released - not sure what else has come out since the beginning of the year).

I think that it either trades shots with, or is slightly slower than, the newest Caviar Blacks, but it's usually a lot cheaper.
