Samsungs magician software says "no update available" in the firmware tab. Am i doing something wrong? Tells me there's no update & i have the latest one, is the Magician software what we use to update the firmware? i'm using the 840 EVO 250GB model.

Any real reason to run this util and update the firmware if I'm getting numbers similar to those above? Don't want fix what ain't broke. Or is it just a matter of time before performance starts to fade with this drive (two months old now).

Yes i was thinking the same, only a month old here, but it also prevents the problem from happening in the future, yes? I read its a one time only run of this app, so cant run it again.

Well, my understanding is the following:

If the drive is not affected, there is no reason to run the tool right now. Your're drive's read performance won't suffer in the future, because the new new firmware takes care of that(I guess that they expect to thrust them about it. Only time will tell us if they are honest, but I don't think that they are that stupid to risk their reputation because of this: they will need to sell the new 850 evo's). The new firmware will also be available using Samsung's magician software. They also stated that all new factory 840 evo's will be shipped with this new firmware.

Now the issue is the vanilla 840. There are people reporting that this drive has the same issue, but samsung says no ... maybe because it is a phased out product and they just don't care about it anymore? If this is the case, then it is just very bad PR and selling future products may be a problem for them.

C'mon people, stop testing this issues with tools like as ssd.
They WILL NOT show it, because they always create a new test file.

Only tools like hdtune or hdtach make this issue visible.

Yeah, I just wanted to post it since I didn't run AS SSD with the five drives before. Since the array was empty, I went ahead and ran it. The results are nearly the same as four 1TB EVOs. The Intel controller is maxed.

Where? I could only find one such complaint and it seems far more plausible that they forgot to include the "EVO" in the model name.

The vanilla 840 has been out almost twice as long as the EVO. If it really had the same problem it would've been evident there first.
