Samsung cell phone users, help!

Cliff Notes: Used phone DOA, am I SOL?

So, on the off chance that someone has an n400 here...
I just purchased one off eBay to replace mine, which took a trip through the laundry. I called in the ESN before I got it, and they confirmed that it's ready to be activated, so I bought it. Seller had lots of feedback, 99% positive, etc. I thought I was pretty safe. But now the phone is here and it doesn't seem to want to charge. The red LED bar on the top is supposed to light up when it's charging, but all it does is, when you first plug it in, light up for a second and a splash screen shows up on the screen, then the LED goes off and the phone goes blank. Phone doesn't turn on even when plugged in, so I'm thinking it's not the battery. Any thoughts on what could be going on? I've tried both the car and the AC charger. Should I start making arrangements to get a refund (ten day warranty from date of purchase on issues of functionality)?

Since it doesn't work, you should try to get a refund...
I could just be the battery, but I'm assuming the auction was for a working phone. Who knows, maybe the seller has more of that phone in stock.

Yeah, it supposedly passed a "functionality test." I thought it might be the battery too, but I assume the phone should still turn on when plugged in, even if the battery is dead. Thanks.

actually, if the battery is dead, the phone can't be turned on...

the power goes through the battery, not directly to the phone.

get one of those 'after market' battery from eBay.. and try it..

if phone still doesn't work.. you are out of luck..

OH, bTW, leave it plugged in for overnight.. sometimes that works..

Yeah, I left it plugged in overnight. I see what you're saying, but the LED light that indicates that the phone is even charging didn't light up. I don't know if it would light up if the battery was completely dead and incapable of holding a charge. I might call around and see if there are any cell phone stores that have chargers for this particular phone. Maybe they'll let me try one to see if the charger is the problem. The ones that came with the phone are not Samsung branded, so I guess there's a chance they're not right for it.
