I just purchased the BX2231
It works with my dvd player hdmi, works with my vid card's dvi with a vga converter, but refuses to work from the same dvi if using dvi->hdmi cables (tried 2 cables)

what might explain this ?

I don't know what to tell you specifically, but I would imagine that the problem lies with your video card or maybe your control panel settings. Everything i've read says you shouldn't have a problem.

Do you have an hdtv or something that you could connect to your pc to see if it works or not?

Are you saying the monitor wont work when you use a DVI->HDMI adaptor or that it wont work when just using it straight from the DVI port on your graphics card?

Seems that he's using a cable that is DVI on one end and HDMI on the other.

I can't think what might be causing this issue. You don't have it connected to the same monitor with two different cables do you? The only other things would be the settings (maybe its trying to output a signal the monitor can't display?), or to make sure you have the right HDMI input selected on the monitor.

Yes, i've tried two different PC's with 2 different cables.
9800gt, gts250 (both only have dvi)
If I use the dvi->hdmi cable that came with the samsung monitor (for it's hdmi) it refuses to work.

I've also tried a 1.3b hdmi cable with a dvi->hdmi converter, still don't work.
I just get a black screen, and the monitor tells me to check the signal.

hmmm
apparently it works as the secondary display with my gts250 system, just not as the primary display ...

I guess I got it now, also the samsung online user manual says a reboot might be needed (not sure how that'd help) but I havn't tried that.

It is basically setup how I want it now. Secondary monitor on my workstation. then connected to my server (dvi-vga only), then connected to my dvd player. So I can manually switch between the 3

That was my first thought, but after looking more closely at the fact that there are 3 potential imputs VGA + 2 HDMI and that DVI would supposedly convert to HDMI without hassle it seemed like a perfect fit.
Also the power usage on this samsung was lower than all the other 21.5" models I saw.

My second and third choice would have been:
hp 2211x
ViewSonic VX2250wm-LED

They only had 2 connectors DVI + VGA

The most annoying thing about this samsung is the touch-sense buttons.
Other than that I think i'm happy with my purchase (even tho I feel like I've betrayed viewsonic since I've had their crts and loved them in the past)

Ugh, i hate those touch buttons, my brothers samsung has those. The LG monitor I have has the buttons on the side, so I have no idea what I'm pressing.

yeah i have the BX2331 and the buttons drive me crazy. However, the CD that comes with it has a program called Magictune that let's you control all of that from windows, which is awesome.

I'm pretty pleased with mine also, especially for the price (got it shipped for 200 from newegg)
