Is it just me or does it seem like the author of that article has absolutely no clue of the difference between a bit and a byte? The calculations all seem incorrect.

I'm not clear about anything concerning you. Although from what I gather, you work for SOE and take the cards sent to your company by Nvidia for testing to use in your own personal machine.

If Nvidia have not tweeked the memory controller then no, Nvidia wont have GDDR4...but if they have then thats a different story. But i can see the costs just mounting up for the G71 if it was so.

i personally think the G71 will be launching at around $550 msrp

adding gddr4 to it would only bump up the cost :(

550? Nvidia is the one raising msrp every other launch, Ati tries to lower/keep the same prices and nvidia just goes upping them like theres no tomorrow... i would bet on 649$ min

but how can nvidia afford to launch at such a price this time around?

when the 7 series was launched...it had no opposition...nvidia could set it to whatever they want knowing that customers will be willing to pay for it

when the 512 gtx came out...the msrp price was high because there was only a limited quantity + it was only aimed to take the performance crown

i don't think g71 will use this kind of memory since the article says that the specs have not been finalized yet. we might see this for g80 though

It will be quite terrific when the new forum code gets installed. We can ignore anyone's posts we want. Wouldn't that be great morph? You wouldn't know I existed and vice versa!!! The way it was meant to be. ;)

I'd think nVidia learned its lesson with using very new memory on the 512MB GTX, I would think that unless they could guarantee that they had enough supply for a card that will be in relatively high demand they wouldn't use it so they don't have their new flagship card do like the 512MB GTX.

Did they pass Hynix's GDDR4 speed (I thought Samsung was behind)? I didn't see a nanosecond or hertz rating for Samsung's new GDDR4 memory in that article.

P.S. If someone posts some trolling, just ignore it, don't reply or else it will escalate and destroy the whole thread. The more they realize they're talking to a brick wall the more they'll realize how stupid it is just to sit here and post crap nobody has any desire to read.

I don't believe that memory was that big issue with GTX 512. Maybe in the beginning but now even though memory is available there is a shortage of 512's.
