tasker, nav, even web browsing. A ton of apps tie into gps if you want local info. The problem is that the gps will continue to refresh if it doesn't find a location. It will crash/burn up battery/ be stupid.

Yeah but seriously, do you really leave GPS on 24/7? Are you always constantly lost or something? Your phone has internet, use google search what you're looking for and your location. I don't see how so many people can get so worked up over GPS.

Because they have to complain about something. Though there are people that are addicted to GPS. I know a few that use GPS to get back to their own house. I think a lot of the GPS users got to a point of dependence on a GPS unit. They basically do what it tells them to do. Which would explain why there are so many people getting into car accidents and blaming the GPS.

I think it's Gorilla Glass across the board http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/samsung-galaxy-s-sporting-gorilla-glass-to-protect-that-precious/

Either way, it's about time we're getting Froyo. I hope it improves battery performance, I love my Epic (no GPS issues) but the battery life isn't the greatest.

I was afraid of battery issues from everything I heard.... I am actually happy with the battery life. It blows away my old touch pro and has no problems lasting a full day. It is even better once I rooted it and threw epic experience ROM on it.

I did with my myTouch and I do with my G2. I use Google local search a ton...especially with voice search. It was worthless with the Vibrant. Tasker didn't work worth a crap with my Vibrant. I work in a call center, so cell phones ringing are a HUGE deal. With every other phone, ROM, whatever, it worked great. The Vibrant didn't work at all.

The final straw was when I was simply trying to find the number of a local pharmacy to get an RX refilled. Normally I would just google "pharmacy" and hit the call button next to the closest one. I spent 10 minutes trying to tell Google where I was before I just gave up.

but back on topic.

This release that the OP referred to was for the international i9000 model. No release dates or even hints at dates have been officially stated by Tmobile who will be deploying the update. One bit of info for you is that JI6 is being deployed in stages. The last of those updates should be later this month. JI6 will have to be on all phones before there is any hope of Froyo.

Without the GPS, how is Facebook going to track your movements for ads? Without GPS, how will you tell FB Places and Foursquare that you're at the ER for personal problems?

He just doesn't like it because he wanted more features than what the phone sold with. He can't comprehend that the phone is advertised with a certain feature set and software set. Anything beyond that like Kernel updates, ect shouldn't be expected and demanded of the manufacturer.

Yeah, I'm getting that impression. As a Captivate owner I wish the GPS was better but it's hardly a deal breaker. As far as upgrades are concerned I'm just glad we are getting Froyo at some point.

not untrue at all.

I got used to HTC and their hacker following. Nothing was impossible with even the most basic (G1) handsets. Then I move up to what is basically the top of the line phone and lost all of that. I was severely unimpressed, disappointed and a bunch of other really negative sounding words.

I guess I should change my stance that it was 100% me. I didn't do enough research and had way too high of an expectation. Sorry if I threadcrapped.

It is going to take time for the galaxy series to gain a big developer following for ROMs etc.... However, the epic is selling like crazy and it will come with time. There are some good ROMs out there currently as is.

Ok I guess I have to wait for latest revision for GPS issues. I always depend on GPS with smartphone all the times.

There is a GPS fix by going to the dialer and typing some code in to get to the developer menu or some such and changing a few settings there. Works like a charm.

YMMV I did this and still have the same issue with GPS grabbing my location. If anything I have to restart my phone to grab a GPS lock. I'm really hoping the update fixes this issue. Other than that this phone is superior.

Running my Vibrant w/Bionix 1.9.1 and I could honestly care less about Froyo. I didn't really have any issues with it stock except for some lag once in a while but with Bionix it flies and the GPS is right on.

I'm running Bionix 1.91 as well, and I never been this happy with a rom or the phone. My phone works perfect now with terrific and accurate battery life and it absolutely flies. Location is accurate and works 100% of the time and gps works. I really don't care about Cyanogenmod or any other roms. I don't want to update to anything else since I'm afraid it might mess up phone's perfect state.

I never donated to a developer but I plan on sending some to his whiskey fund. Seriously, Bionix is how Samsung should have shipped Vibrant and all galaxy s phones. Samsung need to hire him and Eugene to write and fix their software.
