The Ativ S phone has a brushed aluminum back cover. Not sure what inspired Samsung to do this with the Windows phone after making every Android phone out of plastic, but at least they are finally doing it.

What I'm really curious about are the two tablets, the Ativ Tab (Windows RT) and the Ativ Smart PC (Windows 8). They look like brushed aluminum and one reviewer said it was while another reviewer said it was plastic that looked like brushed aluminum. Both of the reviews were hands on, so I'd like to smack one upside the head for mistaking plastic for aluminum or vice versa.

Anyone happen to hear which it is? Would be disappointing if it's plastic.

Plastic is better for heat dissipation and wireless radio signals than metal. Samsung doesn't just choose plastic to be cheap.

Apple, ASUS, Motorola, and others have worked around the wireless radio issue by having a small piece of plastic where the antennae is.

And I'm pretty sure aluminum is much better as heat dissipation.

The hands-on video from Engadget definitely makes it look like plastic due to the shininess.

hardware shutter!

this looks exactly like an SGS2 with a slightly modified shell. The shape, the buttons, same stuff. They just added a Windows logo. This is what the SGS3 should've looked like.

That phone looks crazy good. I had my eyes on the Note II, but now I'm not so sure.

I'm waiting to see Nokia's formal announcement of their WP8 phone(s), but there's a good chance I get the Ativ S if it comes to Verizon. I'd make use of 32GB since I tend to run out of space on my phone from all the Zune albums on it. It's one sleek looking phone.

The Ativ S is the kind of phone I've been waiting on Windows Phone to have before jumping ship.

This is the first Windows Phone I've actually found appealing, if WP8 can get as good of third party app support as Android it could have a shot as a serious competitor.
