Samsung A288 American usage?

Okay, i've got a friend who might want to trade me a Samsung A288 and some other stuff for my playstation 2. I've got a few questions.

#1 Is it easy to get it usable in America?
#2 How much is it worth, used?
 
It's GSM.. so I guess that means it could work on any of the providers that support the GSM network (so it wont work with Verizon, maybe t-mobile though...)
