Samsung 950p now discontinued. What about NEC or HP or perhaps Viewsonic or something?

I like my Samsung 950p, but it's now discontinued. What's a good comparative monitor?

I have a 900NF (AG) at work and it's OK, but the text is nowhere near as good as the 950p (shadow mask).

I received this TTX 8997 for work, and truly it is a piece of junk. The first one had uneven whites - yellow on one side. The second can't display crisp text at anything beyond 1024x768. I went and stole a 17" DayTek from the old computers junkyard in my dept. At least I can run 1152x864 x 75 Hz cleanly with that one. (ATI Rage 128 Pro)

I'm especially interested in HP or NEC, since our purchasing dept. deals with a vendor who likes to sell those two brands.

HP P920 D8912A AG?
HP 91 D8911A Shadow mask. Doesn't seem promising.
NEC Monitors

They will also consider TFT, but I doubt they'd pay the whole amount. ie. I'd pay the difference out of my expense acct.

Does the 950P really offer better text quality than 900NF?

Hmm... because I considered getting a 900NF but my main concern is text quality than anything else.

Well, maybe it's the old aperture grill vs. shadow mask thing, but I find my 950p better than the 900NF most definitely. Same applies to the 700NF, and I've got those NFs on a Matrox G450. The 950p is on a Radeon LE. TFT is better though.

A factory direct monitor might be a choice to consider like a Cornerstone monitor monitors direct. I've got the 19" P1460 with an invar shadow mask and it has exceptional crispness and geometry.

Monitors direct has a product comparison guide that's helpful to compare monitors.

I am a huge fan of NEC monitors -- I'm currently using my fourth, Multisync FP950 (Trinitron, not SM). Great customer service and warrantry replacement as well.

If you're on a budget, the Viewsonic A90f is a great buy! Killer quality, sharpness, color correction, (I use mine for design work) and the price can't be beat. You can pick one up at Best Buy for $299. (Probably cheaper by now)
