Evenin' ladies and gents! I just picked up 2 Samsung 940b 19" LCD monitors (had for about 9 days, actually) and I'm having something weird happen. The viewing angle is perfect when viewed at a downward angle from above, and likewise the horitzontal viewing angle from left and right are both flawless. However, I have a monitor riser that sits 'bout 8-10 inches higher than the rest of the desk, and when I sit down I'm staring upwards at the monitor on an angle of about 2-3 inches below straight on. When viewed from this angle (I would say its about a 30 degree arc from below the center point of the panel) the top 15-20% of the panel starts to go very dark. Almost like the old LCD monitors where one had to be viewing the monitor directly on or distortion would appear, etc. The problem is mostly prevalent on dark color backgrounds, games, etc. although its rather obvious (to me) on any background. It's weird, if you're viewing at any angle other than an upwards one, its flawless.
At first I thought it might've been a flaw in the panel, but both the monitors I purchased are exhibiting the same issue. Are any other 940B owners having similar problems? You wouldn't notice it at all if you have a flat desk though. If someone is so inclined as to prop their monitor up on a couple of phone books to see if they notice the same problem though, I'd be forever in your debt. I'm upgrading from a BenQ FP171 17" and a Viewsonic VX900 19", neither of which had this issue, so I know it's not just something I can attribute to the usual issues LCD panels possess. It's doubly weird that only the upward angle exhibits problems. Left, Right, and top-down have no problems whatsoever, and can be viewed at the rated 160 degree angle flawlessly.
Anyway, sorry for the lengthy post - any and all assistance greatly appreciated. Figured I'd see what some other 940B owners had to say before I ate the restocking fee x2 and swapped for Viewsonic 930s.
