Samsung 940b concerns

I just bought the samsung 940b 2 days ago and have only one concern. The picture. I flip though all the settings and i cant find one that looks good. They are either way way way to bright or the colors arent vibrant at all.

However during games the monitor performs well, it seems to just be in windows, internet, email etc that the colors are just not right.

I am using analog, im not sure how big of a difference digital will make with this.

If anyone has this same monitor could your please post your personal settings so i could try them out.

Also when watching a HD show that i had off the net, there is quite a bit of digital pixel noise , ya know blurry pixel...whatever.

Welcome to the forums.

You can try and go through some color adjustment/calibration software. There's a program called Samsung MagicTune that should have come with your Samsung 940B that can help you with that. If you can use digital, do use it. It will always deliver a higher quality picture than analog.

What type of monitor are you coming from (what did you have before the 940B)?

My old monitor was a CRT, 19 "

The magictune program hasnt really helped, i was jut seeing if anyone else was in the same boat

First LCD I take it? I moved from a 19" CRT to the 940B a month or so ago. You're exactly right, windows seems to have no perfect adjustment, while games look great.

Windows can look dull with moderate brightness/contrast/color settings. Too much brightness/color/contrast and you get a washed out, glaring picture. Gotta remember the 940B is positioned as an excellent gaming LCD at a good price. It wasn't designed for high end text, ie 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Not using the memory resident MagicTune program (use front panel), I've found I like:

MagicBright: (second button) set to internet
MagicColor: set to full
Contrast set to 75-80 (set with MagicColor off then go back and turn it on)
Sharpness to 76-80 (set with MagicColor off then go back and turn it on)

If you like color, try MagicBright set to game.

You're tastes. Just remember how good games look. And get a good DVI cable. I bought from this place and got a 9 footer for a great price: dcables

Check the pinout on your graphics card. This one works on the 940B side of things.

I've had a 940B for a long time and I think it looks great... Then again, I'm not picky either. When watching DVDs it doesn't look as good as a TV (when your up close)

I had the same problems with my 940B when i first got it. I am VERY satisfied with it now that i have messed with it some. First do not install the drivers for it as they will make you not be able to use the 75hz refresh rate. I also did not install the color software. I left almost everything stock.

What i did to fix it was go into my graphics card tab under desktop properties. Find color correction. Move your slider up a few notches on Digital Vibrance. OH MAN did that make everything look SOOOOO much better.

Also its night and day between the vga and dvi. Upgrade to DVI asap.

thanks for all the replys so far. I forgot to mention that i have a ati radeon 9600 video card. I'm not sure if this is making the analog video any worse then normal or not?

Na, the 9600 would be fine for Windows and wouldn't affect image quality. You have updated drivers at some point right?

If you're trying to game with it, do realize there are a ton of Direct X 9 capable cards out there that are newer, strong, faster. For under $75.00, you could get a good performance boost. For $100.00, you could do even better.
