Hi all,

I'm trying to decide between buying a Samsung 930BF or a VX924
The price is similar so the decision is really
"Wich one is best for Videos/Games ? "

I've read that the Samsung has problems with 1024x768 but I really don't care.

Does anybody knows a review comparing both of them ?
What's ur opinion ?

Thanks.

Hey wpr, I had the VX924 for a few days but returned it when I lucked out on a smokin' deal for the 930B. The VX924 is great for games, but so is the 930B so I imagine the 930BF will be just as good. One of the things I really like about Samsung LCD's is the software that's included and their OSD is pretty good compared to some other companies. Those two things make it a little easier to get the image just the way you want it.

Games are going to look great on either monitor, but video probably won't look as good as what you're used to seeing on a CRT. You're not going to want to use 1024x768 on either monitor since both of them have a native resolution of 1280x1024 and images definitely look better when you use that setting.

I'd go with whatever is cheaper, or if you want to save around $100 get a good 8ms panel because you won't be able to tell the difference between 8ms and 4ms in games IMHO. The Hyundai L90D+ is pretty awesome, as is the BenQ FP91G+ and either of them can be found for less than $350. :)

Good luck!

So now ViewSonic is touting the same monitor and inflating the specs more or what? Something leads me to believe they didn't actually change the panel this time.

Talk to people and they will tell you about the VP191b by Viewsonic.

These two monitors I have seen first hand. I have even used a 930B (8ms) for 2 months. No ghosting is true but the colors and display SUCK. It will burn your eyes out before the LCD burns out itself.

You won't get ghosting in today's overdrive panels like the VP191b already, so just settle iwth that. Uhh, I can play Starcraft fine on those games and BF2 demo looks decent on my VP191b @ 1024 cuz demo doesnt support 1280. It's not great though, so stick with native resolution.

I've heard the same from others. The display tends to be very bright.

You won't get ghosting, but you'll get motion blur. Motion blur will exist on every LCD ever created, due to the nature of the technology. This 3ms. and 4ms. BS is annoying, when they average about 20ms. still. I get some pretty bad blur on BF2 when I'm turning on a tank and scanning for enemies/flags, but other than that it's not too bad. I have a 12ms. (Tr+Tf) LCD that's just as fast as 8ms. GTG displays.

1. If I would have to choose again between those two I would choose the 930BF over the VX924 (I own VX924). Although the colours on the Samsung may be less vivid, and the monitor looks cheap at least their panels are made better (IMO).

On my Viewsonic I have some backlight bleeding and it makes all the black on the monitor "sparkle" (the black part of the picture kind of looks like a photo negative). Black looks black but in some areas it 'shines' and it is very distracting (hard to explain).

Anyhow view my post on my problem with the VX924 here Link and see if this helps you.

2. 1024x768 may/may not be a problem. Indoor shooters such as (somewhat) Halo or Doom 3 will not be affected much by the screen resolution. Battlefield 2 on the other hand looks like crap on anything less then the monitor's native resolution (way too jagged). I don't think you will see any major difference between native resolution and (high) non-native resolution in games such as, WC3, Age of Mythology, Dungeon Siege 2, etc. (I am not sure about driving games).

3. When it comes to reviews just goodle for 'VX924 review' or '930BF review' there are 3-4 really good ones - no rocket science.

4. 930B and 930BF is in my opinion the same crap different pile. The BF has cranked up overdrive to reach 4ms, thus you pay more money.

5. Conclusion: Go with the Samsung. Looks like hell but it gets the job done better!

Tryied the 930BF and the VX924 and kept the VX924. Both were pretty good IMO but the Colors are more vibrant on the VX924 and I have none of the "backlighting issues" or "sparkles" that some of the reviews talk about. Also the VX924 scales down to 1024x786 pretty good for gaming use with DVI, the scaling was pretty ugly off the D-sub though. Be warned, both monitors are bright out of the box and I practically needed sunglasses for the viewsonic but after dropping the brightness to about 60% and contrast to 50% it perfect.

Rancherlee - funny that you mentioned the brightness and contrast of the VX924.... the monitor is not as clear to me as it could be (compared to my Acer AL1916W I use at work). If you turn down the brightness and contrast on the VX924 below 70% the whites have a slight yellow tint to them. Again, maybe it is my panel and my panel only (not the VX924 design)

As much as I am bashing the VX924, it is a good monitor but I think I was unlucky and got it out of a bad batch.

i have the vx924 too and I love it. I have not experienced any backlight issues, and the black is about as black as it could be. The colors are spectacular.

i could not be happier, except that it's still kind of difficult to adjust to the increased brightness level of the LCD, comming from my old CRT.
