Samsung 900nf questions

I bought a 900NF and it's very nice for its price. Anyways I'm not too famililar with aperature grille screens and their durability. I was wondering:

1) ARe they more fragile when bumped around (i assume due to the two wires holding the grille in place)?

2)How long does one of these monitors last (MBR or something i forget the acryonem)with typical use (about 3-4hrs/day) compaired with shadow mask or whatever tubes?

Thanks in advance if you know

Well this is kind of a bump to make sure it says up there 🙂 but I would like to know also. As far as I know, they aren't much different than the durability of shadowmasks. Though that would be incredible because i'm using a 17" CRT, which is a shadowmask, and it is 7 years old. It will be replaced soon, but it is still very useable. If someone has news to the contrary of what I am thinking about the lifespan of aperture grilles, then by all means explain it :-D.

I've got a 15" that I used through college (sony trinitron) that still runs to this day (although I know for a fact the parents hardly ever use it). I used it for 3 with no problems. I've got a Trinitron TV I've had for 7 years, no problem (not the same as a monitor, I know).

I'm now typing on a GDM-FW900 which is a Sony 24" widescreen Trinitron. If I wasn't absolutely convinced it would be trouble free for the next 5 years (and hopefully much longer than that), I wouldn't have parted with the amount of cash it cost.

I have a Mitsubishi montior that's going strong for 4 1/2 yrs. It's been bumped around, shipped around the world but still looks good. I used to use it 5~6 hrs. for the first 3 yrs. until I gave it to my wife who now only uses it for less than 1 hr/day.

I have owned 900NF now for over 3 years. It has been moved, hit, shipped and it the quality looks as good as the day i bought it. This is a great monitor (i find it better looking than sony's) and for the price its unbeatable

I have a 17 inch Philipps Magnavox that I paid $1,400 Cdn. over 11 years ago (that was the price for it 11 years ago) and it's still a kick ass monitor. small but still very good.

you can see it here. I still use it on my second system, it's the one between the two computers.
