I got a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro SSD last month as part of a new z170 system build that may be failing or already dead and I am looking at RMAing it to Samsung for warranty repair because it is outside the return limit of 30 days.
On a fresh non-UEFI install of Windows 10 not an upgrade Windows would begin to hang after 5 to 15 minutes with a spinning circle and the drive would disappear in the BIOS. The first time this happened I put the drive in an older Win7 computer and the same thing happened where to drive disappeared in the bios and in Windows 7 file explorer. After booting the Win7 PC again it showed up in file explorer then I deleted some files on the 850 Pro and I was able to use the Samsung Secure erase to reset the drive to factory defaults.
Then I reinstalled Windows 10 again as an UEFI install on the 850 Pro and the same things starting happening again where Windows would hang after about 5 to 15 minutes. I put the drive in the old Win7 PC again and could not see the drive in BIOS or even pull it up once in Windows explorer.
I then just used one of my SATA 4TB HDDs as a system drive and my new system build has been running awesomely for the past two weeks playing Shadows of Mordor, Legacy of the Void, and Fallout 4 all in true 4K UHD.
So what should I do with this $465.00 paperweight? Would it be worth it to pay the shipping to Samsung to see if they can repair or replace it?
