Hello! I've just tested my 250GB Samsung 850 SSD using Magician software and CrystalDiskInfo, here are the results:

Samsung Magician: Drive Health -> 64.2 TB written - Good.
CrystalDiskInfo: Health Status -> Good 82%

1) Should I be worried? I've read on some forums that this drive endurance is about 75TB written (about 10TB left). Is it time to buy another drive?
2) I have a Asus Maximus Hero VII, should I buy an M.2 NVMe or just stick to a high end SATA like 860 Pro, 870 EVO, Crucial MX500?

CrystalDiskMark results:

Honestly yes, i would get another at this point. I've found that on drives that get even close to their rated TBW that problems can arise like slowdown and strange symptoms.

Most newer drives are rated for 300 TBW or higher so you shouldn't have that issue any longer.

No reason to get an M.2 drive for that socket 1150 board as it might not be compatible and won't run at it's rated speed anyways.

I'd go for a Samsung 870 or 860 EVO, Crucial MX500, or a WD Blue SSD.

Thanks for the answer!

Samsung 870 EVO 500GB/1TB $59.99/114.99
Samsung 860 EVO 500GB/1TB $79.99/134.99

That's weird, shouldn't the 870 cost more than the 860? Is there any difference between them? Which one should I get?

I would get the 870 EVO based on pricing. The 860 is almost as fast but not quite and a lesser TBW.

Buy the 870 EVO if it's cheaper!

Wow that is a pretty good price for the 870 Evo. I am surprised it is priced lower. Makes it an obvious good choice for a SATA SSD.

From what I have read, your board's m.2 is limited to PCIe Gen2 x2, so most good m.2 SSDs would be bottlenecked. However, you could get a PCIe Gen 3 x4 adapter card for an m.2, and install that in one of the PCIe slots.

Since you have the capability for NVMe, and are buying new, there is little reason not to buy such a drive. Even with a PCIe 2.0 x2 bottleneck a mid-range NVMe will be faster then any SATA drive. As Shmee writes you can optionally use it with an adaptor. You can always reuse it in the future, and SATA is on the way out for SSDs.
