FYI buydig's ebay store is selling the 500GB version for $299.99. No tax and free shipping in CA.

you guys remember when the 830 was $149 for 256gb? wasn't special . Except the 840 dies in about 1/10th as the 830 :(

Every n/m step results in less P/E cycles, which can be combat with newer programming technology etc. But SLC -> MLC -> TLC is the biggest jump and the laws of physics are quite hard to overcome.

x25-E -> 100K P/E
x25-M -> 10K P/E
840 -> 1K P/e

I think I would pony up for the MLC pro or step back and find an 830 ;)

EMCYTZT2903 makes it $150 shipped (starts 2/9)

Includes sata and power cables, 2.5-3.5 bracket, sata-usb adaptor, and mounting spacer. Too bad its not drive only for 125 but Ill bite. Got this off of SD but its not active yet so IDK.

Tempting... I could always use an SSD for my laptop (and perhaps even my desktop or HTPC).

I'll probably hold off though and only finally go for the SSD when it comes time to do an entire computer makeover.

Id like to get one of these for our VMware server at work to replace a raid 10 array. How much do you think a few WD Black 640GB drives would sell for?

Owls - do not use the 840 . Xtremesystems killed on in 1/10th the time of the 830 .

I'd pick the samsung 830 512gb or intel 320 before the 840. I'm going for raid on 840-pro's just to see how they fair.

There's a reason the 840 is so cheap bro [512gb for $299], they don't last. TLC has 1000 P/E.

If your doing 10gb writes per day, a 500gb drive will last like 50 years while the 250gb will last 25 years. Tell me the last time you had a computer that long?

BIG BOLD LETTERS - SOLD OUT. :)

When I transferred my OS to SSD, I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Home Edition 5.1.2 - it aligned the SSD and appeared to transfer over all of the bits as well.

Can I get two of these and use the mobo to RAID 0 them easily? Like no needed extra software? Just plugin, configure it in the RAID screen and good to go?

Yea if your motherboard supports Raid 0, I have 2 120GB 830's in Raid 0. I get arounf 1000MBs on my reads, but boot time is longer.
