Samsung 840 Pro - unpartitioned space *required*?

Overprovisioning question: does this drive need free space that may be partitioned, or does it required *unpartitioned* space to operate efficiently?

The SSD already sets aside a given amount of space, so you don't "need" to set any extra space. If you do want to assign extra space, then I think you need to use the Samsung Magician software for over-provisioning, which takes unpartitioned space away. Unless you are constant using the SSD, there should be plenty of idle time for the default provisioning to be used efficiently. I don't have any noticeable slowdowns with my Samsung 830s, which have been filled up may times over.

I appreciate the response. I'm trying to get Mint 15 installed, so that means I will not have access to the Magician software.

I'm not worried about using too much space. I just wanted to be sure that this drive didn't need some kind of unpartitioned space to operate correctly. I doubted that was the case, but wanted to be sure. Thanks again.
