Samsung 840 Pro not recognized (HP Pavilion a530e)

Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion a530e. I installed a PCI card for internal SATA, and that works perfectly with a SATA western digital 1TB hard drive that I had purchased a couple of years ago.

I decided to give the Samsung 840 Pro a try, and I installed that on the system. I simply transferred the SATA cables from the old to the new HW disk.

When the box is booted up, I see a note about the SATA controller (just like before) but nothing else (for the old disk it displays the HDD size). So clearly the BIOS doesn't seem to recognize the new disk.

In another forum there was a hint by someone that this may not work at all for me but I wasn't able to understand what SATA controller issues could prevent the device from being even recognized.

I have been looking around the web for some answers but haven't found a clear next step. I am hoping to get suggestions from folks on this forum.

Thanks!

SN.

Since this is an add-in card do you need to have drivers installed for the card before it will recognize the HD? I remember that a few years ago I added one of those PCI SATA controller cards to a IDE based system, and before I could install an OS I had to install the drivers for the SATA card since if that doesn't work properly then it can't correctly find the HD. Or perhaps is this related to AHCI issues. You didn't mention whether or not you cloned the old HD to the new one or tried to restore a backup to the new drive.
