Samsung 840 PreOrder @NE

I see there are two different models and the one with the lesser memory is the slower one. Hopefully prices will fall soon as I'd like to have one as my boot drive.

Prices are not going to fall lol. It will be priced same from beginning to another year.

The 840 pro ,,, the 830 512GB was 700 dollars for a long time, its still expensive.

Next upgrade-512GB 840 Pro when prices are reasonable. Til then I'll muddle along with my 256GB 830.

to me this ssd is not a big deal. just go out and get a good priced 830 samsung. they are having fire sales on the 830. I got some 256gb models under 140. This is still a sata III drive just like the 830. It uses lesser chips that may not wear well.

The higher end model may be good for a few power users. As the chips are better.

maybe anandtech could have them in the servers they use.
As long as we are stuck on sata III No new ssd will be a big speed gain over the other.

To my needs any sata III will do the job speedwise so if they work and do not break is my key. If that is true then price.
These samsungs are a price fail for me.

For fun and games I would like to see sata IV or what ever is next. will the next level push 1000 read write? will iops be 250,000?

When you're done muddling 😉, send me a PM. I'll be glad to take that 830 off your hands and I can finally retire my Velociraptors.

Will do! As nice as the 'Raptors were for spinners (hot little suckers), you'll be impressed by how much quicker an SSD is. I booted from the 74 GB model for years until I could finally afford a 64GB M4. Like night and day; 64-bit Photoshop CS6 loads ready to edit in 8 seconds flat.

No one talks about 512GB Sammy thats probably 600 now. That is why no one can afford one, no one has one. You guys get 256GB ,, that is not enough , for everything
OS, Apps, Games, Data, videos etc.

I got 14 games installed on this SSD and DAW and I still have 150GB free, I did good, Crucial was 3 hundred less at the time I bought it. 700 ... I payed 400 dollars and I love how firmware and TRIM speed things up,,,,, my boot times have changed as firmware changes,, amazing........ Go Crucial...... your not gonna see a diff. plus in Toms hardware M4 was fastest booting W7 , It launches PS CS6 in 2 seconds. good enough.. why pay 300 more alto I like Sammy, Crucial doing good,, crystal reports 100 percent Good...,, Im no where near 3000 hours usage yet. Cant wait for the next firmware to fix the UEFI problem and enhance speed even more. I mean

1ms is instant. is there diff between 0.07ms and 0.7ms except for benchmarks, in the real world ?

well for me I'll get the 840 250gb pro
-going single drive for the os
-1 x 830 256 = is roughly what I have now , the 840 will seem like a upgrade even if it's only in the benches.

That 250GB Pro looks juicy. Although my Vertex 2 is still going strong and loads programs fast enough as it is. 🙂
