Samsung 840 EVO on Zotac ID92

Hi,

I installed a Samsung SSD 2.5", 120GB, SATA600, 840 EVO into my new Zotac ZBX ID92, with the purpose of installing Windows 8 on it (from USB drive). It just won't do it, is the thing.

After the first reboot, when Windows already installed several files, the Zbox says there's no bootable device upon reboot. Or it will tell me Windows cannot be installed on Partiton 0, 2 (where it just installed it), because my hardware may not support booting from that disk (which is ludicrous, of course; but, indeed, it won't boot from it).

I set mode to AHCI, and uEFI. Should work just fine, I think. Or do I need to install drivers for it first or something?

Kinda new to SSD, so I may be missing something obvious. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

When installing SSD remember always to install the latest firmware before you begin install process on it.

Can you try another USB stick? Just to be sure.
I don't see any reason why the EVO would not work on that ZBox. Is the EVO the only installed drive?
Upon installing Windows, please delete all partitions on the drive and select the free space, so Windows can create the partitions by itself.

Turns out the 840 EVE can't properly negotiate the SATA 3 linkspeed of the controller. Reducing linkspeed to 'Gen2' (in the BIOS) = SATA 2 speed, it all worked like a charm again.

Although the Zotac site is slightly confusing, and the description of the bios update is a history of version fixes, you should update the bios to the latest/only bios listed on Zotac's support site as it adds "Improved SSD detection and compatibility", if you have not already done so.
