How does the drive perform? I am using a 256GB Vertex 3. Garbage collection has kept performance snappy for over a year.

I am running 10.8. How will the 830 perform? Will it fare as well? I'd rather not enable the TRIM hack if possible.

I run a 128GB 830 on my late 2009 macbook. Have been for about 4 months now and went from lion to mountain lion on it. Haven't noticed any performance loss and its been really great. I too will not use the trim hack. About once a month, I leave it sit at the login screen idling for an hour or so since the 830's GC isnt as agressive as sandforce.

I chose the 830 due to Apple using them as the OEM drives in their products and their reliability ratings. Glad you haven't had any issues with the Vertex. I wouldn't touch OCZ with a ten foot pole.

Why are you looking at switching if you havent had any issues with the Vertex? Performance wont be much different on the 830.

I switched because I needed a larger SSD. The Vertex 3 is no longer for sale at my local electronic store.

Also, I hear that since the Samsung 830 doesn't use compression to achieve its performance, it will perform much better with FileVault (eg. encryption) enabled. I plan on trying FileVault soon
