Samsung 830 Macbook Install

I have a first generation Aluminum unibody Macbook Pro. I did a 4GB RAM and 7.2k RPM upgrade when I bought it (not quite 2.5 years ago).

I am thinking a 128GB Samsung 830 upgrade will keep this thing fairly relevant (I don't do anything too intensive on here), and will delay upgrading a few more years.

With the Samsung 830 there is a laptop and desktop version. The laptop version says this in the Amazon description:

"2.5-inch standard (Reduced 7mm thickness for use with ultraportables and netbooks)"

The dimensions of the desktop version look the same though.

My main concern is this drive is too thin for my Macbook and it will bounce around in the HDD bay after install. Has anyone else had this problem?

I did not know that the 830 came in a 7mm size.... Anyway, the drive bay usually has a hard drive bracket. If so, it will make no difference. If it does not have a bracket you simply put "sticky" foam on it to keep it secure.

The 830 comes in three forms:

drive only

desktop kit

laptop kit

The laptop kit comes with an 830 drive which is 7mm high and also a 2.5mm plastic adapter. The drive will also be screwed down via some caddy system. Either way the laptop kit would have you covered.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It's been two years since I decided to remove these tiny screws off the back, so I did not remember it was screwed in, I was thinking I had just slid it in a bracket.

Find a tear down online and that'll show you exactly what's going on and what you need. Think ifixit do them?
