Samsung 830 2 Questions. Should I use Sata 2 & ...

I just installed the 256GB Samsung 830 SSD on my Asus P6T V2 X58 board.

Question 1
I'd like to clone my current boot drive (WD 300GB Velociraptor) using the included Norton Ghost. Problem is Norton does not see the new SSD. The Bios, Windows hard drive manager, and Acronus True Image all see the drive and want to initialize it. Should I use one of the other tools to format it before using ghost to copy the boot drive?

Question 2

I have the drive connected to the Intel SATA 2 controllers on the board. I do have the Asus U3S6 SATA 3 card. Would it make sense to use that card instead of the on board controller for the best performance. This will be a boot drive.
