The 755DF has a horizontal scan frequency of 85Khz and the math tells me that 1024 x 768 at 85Hz is optimal for this monitor.

There is a relatively simple way to calculate the maximum refresh rate of a monitor. You need to know the following. The maximum horizontal scan frequency, and the resolution that you want to run. All manufacturers publish this data. The formula below will give you an approximate refresh rate, to calculate the exact refresh rate the math gets harder and you need to know more details about the monitor such as the exact horizontal and vertical blanking time.

(1 / Horiz Scan Freq) * (Number of Vertical lines + 50) = x
(1 / x) = Refresh rate

So in the case of the 755DF it has a (85,000) 85Khz horizontal scan rate. Lets assume that you want to run 1280 x 1024 resolution. What is the refresh rate?

(1 / 85000) = 0.000011765 * (1024 + 50) = 1074
Note: Add 50 lines to the total number of line to account for vertical blanking time.

0.000011765 * 1074 = 0.01263

1 / 0.01263 = 79.1Hz maximum refresh rate

So the answer is NO. The 755DF is not capable of 85Hz refresh rate at 1280 x 1024 resolution. If your requirement is 85Hz minimum, you will need a monitor with a faster Horizontal Scan frequency or you will need to run it at lower resolution. That's the trade off.

Good Luck
