Samsung 712N 17" LCD $350 ($50MIR) Frys

I just picked up this baby at frys for $399 with a $50 MIR, although taxes kinda negated the MIR Frys has a 30day return policy in case you get any bad pixles or just plainly dont like like it. The price is lower than the $419 base from microcenter and the listed base on the box of $429. I guess it might not be super hot for people who buy their monitors onthe internet but I tend to buy them at B&M so for people who do that this is a great deal.

Sorry to rain on your parade but this monitor was on sale AR last week at both CompUSA and Best Buy for $249. I bought mine from CompUSA as their line at the cashier was shorter. That was a dumb mistake because their rebates tend to have more problems that BBs. Regarding the monitor, I have never seen one connected with a DVI connection so I can't make any comparisons. I'm happy with this Samsung. While playing Doom 3 there is absolutely no ghosting. For general usage the type fronts are clear. I really like the jet black casing and the small footprint. It looks clean if you know what I mean. What is seriously needed is a large review of both the major brands and the generics. It is impossible to get an idea of quality at the stores with their rows of monitors out of tune. I have seen posts where it is claimed that vitrually all of the panels come from the same sources. So is Samsung really better that the cheapos you see on, say, New Egg which are hitting $199 on sale?

I actually got one for $80, and here's how. Best Buy had them for $399 with a $150 rebate. Fine. My wife and I saw one that was a "floor model" for $349. Since BB was out of the monitor that we were going to buy, we asked one of the sales reps if he could take any cash off of the floor model.

Once he checked with his manager, he told us he could knock it down to $230. Cool. Then, once we checked out, the $150 rebate form was still printed and given to us. So, all in all, we got it for $80. Not a bad deal if you ask me!

😉

The 712N does NOT have a DVI connection according to several product pages.

If memory serves me, it's the 712T that does.
