Samsung 56" DLP

Good purchase? We've been thinking about getting a big screen hi-def TV for a while now, and with the Panthers in the Super Bowl, we decided now would be the time. We drove over to BestBuy (terrible setup), Circuit City (alright), and Tweeter (pimp). Tweeter says they will match any B&M store price, and the 56" DLP looks sweet. I think Ameesh has this TV IIRC. Do you like it? Thanks.

First off, the Sony sucks compared to the Sammy....second off...Sammy doesnt make a 56", maybe you are thinking of the 50"?

Either way its a great set. Shop around for deals on the Sammy....there are plenty of good deals on them right now.

Samsung does make a 56", but it's not a DLP. It's the SP56L5HR and an LCD

Samsung's DLP's are 43", 50" and 61".

Might just be mistaken the LCD to be an DLP.

My friend bought this it's around $3,800 btw about a month ago or so. He said that RCA DLP had some problems with the pixel mirrors and have since corrected the issue. That's why he opted for this Samsung 56" DLP instead of RCA. He's very pleased with it. I haven't seen it yet though.

$38k for a 56" DLP???

I think you might be mistaken my friend

Note that the HLN is the newer of the Samsung DLP's and HLM is the old model, stay away from the HLM's...

Within the new models there are only 2 that are the newest with the ability to remember settings for each type of input: HLN567W and HLN467W. I believe these are also the two with the thin border.

Personally i think the 46" HLN467W is the best deal: http://www.samsungusa.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?eUser=&prod_id=HLN467WX%2fXAA

i own the 61" Sammy DLP and I paid just slightly under 2M USD. I think it was a good buy.

My friend got the 61" from Tweeter back when they first came out (@ 5 G's) because "He had to have it". Sweet screen, awesome for gaming.

I don't know what you're talking about, rudeguy, I'm looking at the 56" and 46" right now 😉 (Posting from work) And since I have the luxury of selling both Sony and Samsung, I'd go with the Samsung in a heartbeat. The 46" is the best selling set we have in the store, and the 56" is a close follower. The set itself is gorgeous, and the picture is amazing.

We got our 42" Sony GWIII a few weeks ago...so far so good. Yeah, the LCD backlit 'grayish blacks' are a bit annoying but not too bad. The color cycling effect from DLPs is worse! 😛

2m? 2 million?

carbo: Search the forums for DLP, there are a couple threads on it already

$2 million is a lot of money for a tv. I thought the $38,000 price quoted above was a bit much.
