Checked out this TV tonight at Bestbuy and I have to say it looked REALLY good. Even at about 2ft away I didn't notice pixels (maybe because of the glossy screen), the blacks were DEEP and the colors very nice...

Hooked a laptop up to it and there was basically NO mouse lag at all...

The only thing I could not figure out was this: the desktop image from the laptop did not reach the corners of the TV screen. The max resolution of the laptop was like 13xx(x)768(?) - is that why? Or is there a setting inside the graphics card or tv that I needed to tweek to make it FULL SCREEN?

If I can figure that part out, I will PROBABLY be getting this one...

If you set the display up as "clone" mode with both displays (laptop + HDTV) as active, then you will be stuck at the resolution of the lower res screen.

Also, often HDTVs will automatically re-scale the image through HDMI, causing issues with using computers. One possible solution is to use the VGA input (if available).

Some HDTVs will allow you to adjust modes to stretch the image to the edge of the screen. Some display driver control panels will also allow you to do that.

I won't be hooking up to a laptop at home, but to my desktop in signature...

Sounds like an adjustment I need to make...

I also found this...

Mouse lag? I hear this alot but don't quite understand what people mean.

As far as the screen goes it's either a setting with the laptop or the TV. I know my Dell lappy has a setting in bios to keep image 1:1 or to expand it. I'll assume your gonna use it on your desktop at 1080P so I doubt youd have a problem.

After searching for about 2 weeks for a nice 32" LCD TV to replace my monitor I wound up purchasing this one from Samsclub. The extended warranties are also very cheap from them 🙂

Just got around to hooking it up today and all I can say is Holly Shitz! The screen has amazing colors and the blacks are black! Must be the combo of the LED backlighting and the IPS panel. The VIA apps are kinda cool also.

Pretty much just plugged and played it. Changed color temp with it. Might try to tweak it a little to see if it will look any better. But so far I'm very pleased with it. All I had to do for the image was go into the TV settings and adjust it to go full screen. My video card had about 1/2 of black border around the desktop.

Thanks!

Text look ok on it?

It doesn't look good up close because of its large pixel density but it does look good far away.

Is it the same model as the one Anomaly listed? Also have you noticed any ghosting or smearing during darker scenes?

No, I have a LG, he linked a Samsung. The TV only cost me $325 so I haven't cared too much about its picture quality, however I do notice motion blur in sports and cartoons.

He did list an LG one too. The 32LE5300.

The LG I posted is $469 on newegg, originally $899 and is 120hz...not sure if we are talking about the same one Nehalem...?

Just remember 120hz on a TV is not TRUE HARDWARE 120hz.

You cannot compare that to current day Monitors with 120hz.

Also whatever TV you go with will never look as good as a Monitor. Mostly due to pixel size.

Monitor almost always wins on quality, sharpness and overall look.

Best way to describe it is...Monitors are just much more vibrant.

I hear ya but you should check this Samsung out, I watched a video on it (off the laptop) from 2 ft away and it looked really good...maybe a combo of the 3,500,000:1 and glossy screen?

Not true. Really, the only advantage is sharpness cause of the smaller pixels. But what you lose in sharpness you gain in sheer size. It's a trade-off, but even my 720p TV at 1080p looks really good, but with a true 1080p screen it's just gold. The only issue I have is ghosting during darker scenes in games, though I think this is mostly a Samsung thing. My 20WMGX2 and monitors in gerenal don't seem to do that.

I was just about ready to buy the 32" LED when I said, WTF, let me hook up the laptop to the 37" LED and see how it looks...WOW.

1. Still NO mouse lag...
2. Text still looks great...

Samsung LN37C550 - $799 at bestbuy, $719 at newegg, $719 at local CompUsa...

I am still in shock at how good they performed after hearing all the negative mouse lag talk

I think it's one of those either you see it or you dont things.

Yeah but SOMETHING has changed in TVs from JUST when I joined. If you go search my threads, my very first ones were considering a plasma tv for gaming. Now, they were 42" and 40" Plasmas and I could NEVER get the text to look good. Is it possible that the 37" is just the cutoff for good text???

It wasn't the driver for your video card? Or the video card itself? Or the connection type you were using? And aside from that we're talking about LCDs now, yet you mention that you started out on plasmas...

Well I do have a 570 now compared to a 9800gt. But the laptop at bestbuy was only 13xxX768 and it still looked good on the LCD. I'm thinking 37" may be the cutoff point for good text. Now I will say that Samsung looked the very best between LG, Sony, and Insignia...

One thing you gotta remember is for some reason TV's seem to grow on the way home from purchasing them. What looks small in the store compared to all the larger screens tends to look much larger on your desk!

Too bad you couldn't test them in 1080P. I'm currently using a 32" Vizio LED TV and can say the text looks very good. I dropped down to the res you tested out and it still looked good. For use as a monitor 32" is huge. 37" I think would be doable also. My problem was my budget and that I figured I'd be better off buying a better 32" than getting a 37" of lower quality. My budget was >$500 for the TV and wanted more than a 1yr warranty!

Some people are very picky about text. So what looks good to me or you might not be good to the anal people.

For me I like to use the 125% image size setting in IE it allows me to kick back with my feet on my desk and keyboard in my lap. A little over 6ft from the screen and I'm able to easily read text. I gotta do some tweaking with true type fonts. I did enable it before with my other monitor. I need to disable it and see or play around with it somewhat to see what works best for me now.

Thanks for the reply, so what do you have your resolution set at on your desktop now?

Could you maybe send a screen shot of FONTS at 1920x1080p?

Thanks again.

That's what I thought until I hooked up/changed 2 monitors next to my TV side by side cloned.

DO it....see the difference for yourself.

To me it was a HUGE difference.

I'm running at the native resolution of 1080P

I'm happy so far but still need to tweak the settings somewhat.
