Samsung 256GB SSD

Supposedly entering mass production, I'm sure OCZ will have an enthusiast variant. They'll probably still cost an arm and a leg but they should at least drop prices on competitor products, specifically the Intel offerings.

I just read that myself. It makes me wonder if I should return the Intel SSD I just bought. I didn't even get it yet, but if I can tripl the capacity and nearly triple the write performance....wouldn't I it make sense o get the Samsung instead? How much more than the Intel could it be? And if it's already in production it's gotta be hitting the shelves soon .

Well I don't know if it makes sense or not to buy any of the SSDs right now, depends on how much you're willing to spend I suppose. But the Intel drives are a huge letdown imo, slightly better performance over the Samsung/Jmicron drives but at pricepoint that simply doesn't live up to what was rumored. I guess the big positive to the Intel drives are the lack of random write problems that the Samsung/Jmicron drives suffer. But ya I don't think it hurts to wait, see if the Samsung fixes the random write problems and lowers prices overall. I'd also wait to see if OCZ comes out with a 256GB version, as they use Samsung drives at a much much lower price point. Their Core and Core V2 prices are very close to what I'd spend on a couple drives for RAID 0. I would've probably bought a couple 60GBers already if there wasn't the random write issue.
