For a moment let us forget the price difference between the two. Which one would you recommend? The Samsung 244T or the Dell 2407FPW? I would primarily use the monitor for movies and games, then maybe some PS occassionally. And oh by the way, I do know I'll need to build a fairly powerful machine to play next generation games at such a high resolution (I think both monitors are at 1920x1200 res.) so don't worry about that. I just want your opinion on the strengths and weaknesses of the two monitors.

same panel, same quality.

I would take the 2407 because it has the usb hub and the memory card readers. I find them extremely useful on my 3007.

plus I like the design of the Dell better.

The response time is 8ms compared to 16ms from the Dell. If you're a gamer, that's huge because the Dell can drop as many as 4.5 frames in a game which means as soon as you've got your weapon aimed at someone ready to fire, the other guy has already fired! Big difference, so if you're a gamer the Dell isn't even a consideration!

Here's what I'm talking about with the long response time from the Dell 24 incher: http://www.behardware.com/articles/632-...ages-delayed-compared-to-crts-yes.html

Here's a good review of the 244T: http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?page=6128&head=0
This article says the response time is 6ms but Samsung states it's 8ms. In the end it doesn't really matter because it doesn't show any ghosting or dropped frames in game testing!

I thought the panel itself determined response time, if the Samsung and Dell are the same, how can Dell by 16ms and Samsung by 6/8ms?

Not sure but it appears to be the case. I'm also not sure what the exact response time is. I know it's no higher than 8, but many places are reporting it as 6. Either their wrong or Samsung has a typo on their site. Either way it's definitely lower than Dell's, so maybe it's not the same panel.

I just know I'm dying to buy one! Unfortunately, I have to wait until our tax refund comes in. This is actually necessary as I need it to drop at least $100, but I think it may drop up to $300 by March of '07. If you look at it's intro price, the price has dropped 50% since it's release this year! If that's the case, then by March, it should cost around $550! I think this is very likely because I'm sure Samsung isn't going to sit back and enjoy life, but rather will probably release a new 24 inch to replace this one.
