SAMSUNG 242MP Black 24"

Anyone know anything about this monitor? it says 16ms but anyone know if its gtg? or is that rise-fall response?

I'm looking for a 23"+ monitor for gaming (yes, I want lcd) and the only worthwhile one i've seen so far is the one from HP.. the 2405fpw is not acceptable since it is getting horrible reviews in the response rate department.

I'd love to get more info on this monitor though. Any first hand experience? anyone seen a review on this one anywhere?

Here's the newegg link to it:

Thanks!

Gynthazi,

I know you said that you didn't like the Dell 2405 but the model you linked, its $1,600 and most likely the exact same monitor as the dell. I believe Samsung (could be wrong) makes the Dell 2405, only dell puts the Dell logo on it.

Also did you notice that the monitor has "Built-in TV and FM Radio Tuner" do you want that on a gaming system? It looks like a nice monitor but its 2x the cost of the Dell (I got my Dell 2405 for $800).

I have seen a few bad reviews of the Dell 2405 and then some REALLY good reviews. I don't know what to tell you, but I see NO ghosting/blurring on my monitor at all! My experience is that it is perfect. No bad pixels, really nice color/contrast/brightness, No ghosting. Some of the reviews I have seen (and believe) say that most poeple would not notice the ghosting on the Dell, but that it is present, but only the most demanding viewer would ever notice it, much less be bothered by it. I play a few first person shooting games, watch TV/Movies. and I have yet to seen anything but a perfect screen. I suspect that if you look close enough you will see some ghosting on almost any LCD monitor you can buy, even the 4ms ones (it seems like they lie about the real life responce times).

Try checking out other reviews before giving up on it. Dell has a great return policy if you don't like it. Try it, return it if you see any ghosting. I have seen good reviews of the HP 23" monitor. But for my money, the 2405 can't be beat!!! It is sooo nice... has really nice input options, and such a wonderful picture!!! I can't imagine anything nicer!

Just my thoughts hope that helps you

??? what???? the link is for a 24" Samsung monitor for $1,599.99

Oh, you linked a different monitor... wow that does look nice, do you really think that would make a good gaming monitor? I mean wouldn't you have to be about 10 feet away just to see the screen 🙂 ....

Now that i think about it.... that really would be fun!!! do you have such a thing ribbon13 ?

actually, that hole distance thing is because CRTs are basically a gun of light shooting at your eyes. LCDs are much nicer on the eyes, so diagonal measure times ~1.5 (I'll just round up and say 5ft) should be perfectally acceptable.

I'm still debating between that one and this one

WOW, you sure know your high end LCD monitors 🙂.. hehehehe .... If I was in the market for such a thing, the one from COSTCO sounds good, just becouse its cheaper, has a faster responce time.

Have you seen it in person? what did you think?

I have the 2405fpw also, and paid 779.00 shipped for it, and have no ghosting at all in my gaming, Dungeon Siege II, Half-Life2, Unreal Tournament, etc. DVD's though don't look great however.

LOL,

Look. My GF plays WoW. And thats why I'm buying it. Look worthy?

WOW... does your GF have a BF? I would marry her just to get to that monitor !!! 🙂 WOW... double WOW.... im not worthy.....

I'm pretty sure she's stuck on the idea of marrying me, sorry. But we are looking for swinger couples. But of course the LCD is going to be put to the test in a different way. p0rn@1080p.

The 2405FPW is either a Planar or LG (just can't remember where I read it though).

Highmodulus, and SnoMunke,

I'm not sure who exactly makes this monitor. But I have heard that this was made by Samsung. The 20" model and the Apple Cinima display I beleive are the exact same thing (different plastics though) and are made by LG.

I suspect that since Samsung sells a 24" LCD monitor with much the same specs, that they are infact the same thing. I don't know how Dell sells it for 1/2 as much as Samsung, but these 2405 monitors are a good deal.

Oh, one last thing to think about. These don't support HDCP (High Def copy protection)... I have NO idea how important that will be, I suspect someone will have a crack/workaround 5 min after Windows Vista is released. But as of right now it won't work 100% with windows Vista when its released. I think the only thing affected though is High Def content play back (which I use on Win XP!!!).

Hope all of this helps.
