Never had a problem with fumes, but you definitely don't want to snort them.

Keep in mind capacitors have polarity and they need to be put back the way the old ones came out.

ok well this is better, but not great. I got off a good amount of solder but i'm having trouble clearing out whats left. maybe some braid would work better than this sucker. really wish i would have found someone to do it for me lol

a braid would help ALOT. So would a more professional grade iron in the 60-80w power range, just be careful with it as not to overheat the area.

A better iron would be nice. hopefully a braid will put me over the edge though and get it done

A braid is really the only way to do it effectively if you dont have a 50w+ iron IMO

yes. its an old video card, close to 8 years old probably, if it matters. maybe I should try some other things too, maybe my luck would change

well I tried a few other connections on the same video board I was working on and some of them were extremely easy to work with, I think mainly the bigger "solderings"

Really tempted to try the 226bw board but still waiting for the braid in the mail so I'm trying to hold off

The easy joints are the ones NOT connected to a plane.
Rather, they connect to a trace and are much easier to heat up and flow.

Remember the capacitors, the big ones, tie the power plane to the ground plane.
This is to filter spikes and switching noise out of the power.

SO, the upshot is both legs of each capacitor are going into a plane and will require a lot of heat. Be persistent but careful to not overheat the board. One tip may help you: if you have a pair of small edge cutters, cut the capacitor off the board first and then desolder the remaining leads. This will save having to heat up the entire lead and cap.

lol I really need to step up and get this done. I ordered a samsung P2350 when this one started to die, and now this one seems to be going out also lol. Screen will only turn on for a second before switching off. Eventually it will stay on after a bunch of tries. It's only about 2 weeks old, so at least it is under warranty. Still a hassle

I don't think so, and I am using a surge protector. I'm guessing I just got unlucky with this new monitor.

Anyway, I *think* I did it. Everything looks pretty good and it was actually pretty simple. Now I just have to remember how to put this thing back together so I can try it

After that I forgot to take more pictures lol. With monitors this big it is a pain in the neck, literally, to use dual screens. I need to get this new one working so I can decide what to do with the old
