The 120HZ Options work amazing on my Nvidia 8800 ULTRA, so what is the deal with my 5870 not being able to support 120HZ?

I am doing something wrong, I have been googling for hours now just to come to a conclusion that the ATI Cards don't do 120HZ. Is this true, it just does not make any sense.

1. Using Dual-Link DVI
2. Monitor Only has Dual-Link DVI Plug
3. Using Only One Monitor
4. Only doing 2D not interested in 3D

I am planning to exchange my 5870 2GB for a Nvidia 580.
50 Views and no one has anything to add?

I don't have one of these monitors so I would just have to ask the obvious:

Is it safe to assume the nVidia drivers come with a special profile for this monitor since it is recommended by nVidia as a flagship monitor for their 3D Vision? You may have to do a custom setup on the ATI card to get it to work the way you want.

Sounds like you already have a plan to make the swap so there's not much to say past that. Looking at Newegg prices, I would say do the switch if it is a straight up one. There's a minimum $100 difference between what you have and a new 580. The 580 should perform faster too.

You don't set 120 hz in the drivers. you right click on the desktop, enter resolution options then click on the avanced tab and finally the monitor tab. From there using the drop down menu, select 120hz

First off, make sure you have drivers newer than 10.4. If you are indeed using new drivers then make sure the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" box is checked off. If you still cannot select 120hz try this:

Start->Run->Regedit->Find->DALNonStandardModesBCD1

On the bottom line where it says 0040, add the numbers: "16 80 10 50 00 00 01 20" and hit okay. Restart the computer and cross your fingers that it works.

If this still doesn't work let us know what operating system you are on to further diagnose. ATi cards do support 120hz, but sometimes it just takes a little (a lot) of coaxing out of them.

This.

Make sure you plug your 120Hz monitor into the dual link DVI port on your video card.

2 DVI; 1 single link and 1 dual link.

HOLY ....! Two people! I definitely retract whatever I said. This is serious business. OMGFGG DO NOT GET A 580 AND 2233RZ IT WILL NOT WORK 2 PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS DO NOT DO THIS PELASE PLEASE PLEASE.

What are we supposed to get to run 120Hz? There was a huge thread on this forum saying how 4xxx series have problems. When the 5xxx series came out, they had problems. There is a thread how the 6xxx series has problems. So count out ATi.

Ive seen (user error) problems with GT200, GF100, GF104, and now GF110.

So basically you're saying that we shouldn't get video cards because it won't work at all. You also NEED to get a new video card because yours has problems!!!!!

/Typing from a 2233RZ @ 120Hz

No profanity in the technical forums please.

You assume a lot of things with that post, and the only thing you accomplished is making an ass out of yourself.

But looking past all of your rhetoric, whether or not this is user error has yet to be determined. As such, the bumper's information is not useless. You are being useless for overreacting like a child. You are assuming it is completely user error. The other guy is assuming it's a problem. Neither one of you have been completely substantiated yet.

Disgusting.

I'd imagine for the few users that do have problems, changing the refresh rate to 121 might fix things.
